- By A.J. Ryder on May 16, 2017 19:08 GMTAfter a dramatic Kentucky Derby victory for one of the top selections in the contest, Always Dreaming, it's emerged that many now suspect he may have what it takes to push this all the way and potentially secure another Triple Crown. With ontrack observers noting how well he is taken to the surface at Pimlico racetrack over the last week since he has arrived, Always Dreaming is widely expected to pull off the dramatic victory over the tight turns of Pimlico.
There's a lot to like about his chances and if you think that he is ultimately set to falter in his bid to capture the second leg of the US triple crown, then you have some really interesting horses at your disposal - and a much easier betting raise because you don't have to navigate 20 horses like you do in the Kentucky Derby.
His biggest Challenger right now appears to be the former Kentucky Derby favorite Classic Empire. Many believed that he had a very unlucky trip in the aforementioned race at Churchill Downs and could be set to run a Monster Race here if he gets a decent draw and a very clean trip.
Again, since there are not that many horses in the race itself you have to assume that it's going to be a lot easier for him to be able to get the type of ride that he wants and if he is able to tackle the stretch unimpeded then there is every chance that he could catch always dreaming on the lead.
There's always the temptation to back Fresh Horses in this race and there are few interesting contenders that are coming into the next as we get closer to the race itself. One of the biggest wild cards the piers to be the Irish invader Lancaster Bomber who will be lining up coming out of the Aidan O'Brien yard.
