- By A.J. Ryder on February 8, 2017 18:07 GMTOne of the most widely-anticipated races that we expect to unfold at the Cheltenham Festival is always the Queen Mother Champion Chase and this year's iteration of the race is no different from that tradition. We have not only a genuine standout superstar looming large over the race, but also a cadre of talented pretenders to the crown who have every chance of capitalizing on a single mistake made by the prohibitive favourite.

The ante post market for the Mullins/Ricci horses have proven to be absolute minefields for a lot of punters since we have seen some very high profile withdrawals from the festival this year. There is a lot to like about the opportunity to kick on and salvage something here by backing Douvan but with an ante post price tag of about 1/3 you are going to struggle to conjure up any value outside of an accumulator bet.
Douvan boasts an entry for the Queen Mother Champion Chase in addition to the Ryanair and you wou will find him priced at a 2/1 margin for the Ryanair and a slim 1/3 best price for this outing. Nearly undefeated save his first initial effort back in his native France, the Willy Mullins charge has captured all three efforts so far this year and appears to be a full step above the other competitionon offer this year.
It's also a natural progression to see him having captured the Supreme Novices Hurdle and then followed that up with a score in the Arkle the year later. There is a reason this contender comes in at such a short price but he's still got a race to run and a lot of hurdles to navigate and we all know that some important goings-on during National Hunt races can see horses taken out of things through no fault of their own.
Anything is still possible and even the slightest of mistakes could see Douvan lose all chance.
It's difficult to price Altior right now but you'll find him anywhere from a 3/1 margin all the way up to an 8/1 listing to capture the Queen Mother Champion Chase over the rest of the field. He's gone off at incredibly short prices in every single race this year and that will have him building up nicely following his high profile score over Min in least year's Supreme Novices' Hurdle when sent of at a solid 5/1 listing.
