There has been talk about him entering the Gold Cup and he does boast an entry for the race but that appears to be a bit of a long shot now as he is hovering around a 20/1 margin and it would likely take several high profile defections from the festival show piece to see him opt for the much more difficult race.

Another interesting face in this contest is Sizing John who lines up for the Ann and Alan Potts Partnership – boasting a recent victory over the aforementioned Empire of Dirt in the Grade 1 Irish Gold Cup Chase at Leopardstown last week. Prior to that he took the Ladbrokes Ireland Kinlock Brae Chase at Thurles which is a Grade 3 event. His only previous effort this year was a credible second eight lengths behind Douvan the day after Boxing Day at Leopardstown in the Cashcard Chase.

Currently trading around a 4/1 or 5/1 margin, he looks an interesting outside option here for many since it's likely that he goes to this race and only this race – and also looks like he can take on much of the competition who is likely to wind up in this contest as opposed to some of the bigger names being bandied about.

Uxizandre looks likely to come back and defend the title that he secured last year when he captured the Ryanair Chase over the likes of Ma Filleule by a hefty 5 length margin. He had been cross entered for the Gold Cup this year but appears to be set to take the easier option once again and take on some of the contenders in the mix here.
