Justify came into his Preakness race with a very short price both in the future wagering and in the European ante-post markets as well. However it's worth noting that his price in the Belmont Stakes is significantly higher than that and it shows just how to open the contest is going to be.

There was a lot to like about his chances here, but it has also been a continued source of contention amongst many thoroughbred racing observers by the fact that justify had several horses within less than the length of him by the time he actually hit the wire in the race. However it's also worth noting that his jockey Mike Smith still had plenty of loose rein on him and the horse was definitely not asked for all that he had towards the end of the contest.

With the Belmont Stakes being an additional 2 furlongs longer than the Kentucky Derby in 2 and 1/2 furlongs longer than the Preakness itself it's going to be interesting to see whether he can actually handle the additional distance. His sire, scat daddy, is not particularly well known for throwing horses who can handle a full mile and a half - particularly over the deep and tiring turns that you'll find at Belmont Park.
