2018 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile Betting Preview

It looks like the ante-post market for the 2018 Breeders Cup Dirt Mile is getting more interesting by the day now that we have had a couple of very interesting moves develop of the last few weeks. The current coach favorite for the race Bee Jersey has dropped out of the race and looks likely to finish up his racing career after picking up an injury the other day.

He had been priced at a very reasonable listing and had been drinking amongst the favorites for the race and this has certainly open things up and seen price collapses on a couple of other interesting horses.

The interesting part about the dirt mile is that horses tend to only move towards the race late if their connections ought to go for an easier route in the Breeders Cup Classic. This is a constant source of complaints from racing fans but it emerges as an interesting way to pick up a grade 1 race towards the end of the year against competition that isn't quite as tough as what you'll find contesting the feature race at a mile and two furlongs.

It looks as though John Sadler's talented young charge Catalina Cruiser is emerging as the betting favorite now that Bee Jersey has dropped out of the race.

The other really interesting name that appears in the any of those Market is diversify who would be considered the outright favorite to win the Breeders Cup Classic but with the recent breakthrough performance of Accelerate in the TVG Pacific Classic you can expect that there may be some questions about them preferring an easier race and not looking to tangle with Accelerate.

You can also expect a few other interesting West Coast contenders to emerge - the most likely being City of Light who is a very talented runner and looks set to be one of the best sons of Quality Road.

It's also impossible to discount the appearance of Mind Your Biscuits should he choose to run in this race as well.
