2018 Breeders’ Cup Distaff Betting Update
- By A.J. One of the big highlights is always the Breeders’ Cup Distaff which is a nine furlong race for the top female horses in the United States.
There is a lot to like about this year’s iteration of the race and it looks like one of the most open contests in years with a selection of high-flying fillies and mares set to contest this one.
The current favourite appears to be Monomoy Girl and she has been able to produce some legendary efforts this year - particularly her massive victory earlier this year that saw her name thrust into the headlines. The bookmakers have her listed as the outright favourite here but not by a very big margin as she faces some serious pressure from several top tier contenders.
The most notable of them appears to be Midnight Bisou who was moved to Steve Asmussen’s barn from Bill Spawr’s stable earlier this year. She remains just a point behind Monomoy Girl in the ante post market and looks like she could make a big impression here.
The other one to keep your eye on appears to be Abel Tasman who was last year’s Kentucky Oaks winner and has put together some great runs over the past couple of seasons for her owners China Horse Club. She is right in the mix here but has been beaten by a few of these contenders already.
The other primary contender to keep your eye on is Unique Bella who many believe to be a deserved winner if she is able to muster up a victory over Monomoy Girl.
