2018 Breeders’ Cup Distaff Preview PT 1
- By A.J. You can assume that both of them have very fascinating campaigns still to unfold over the next couple of months during the build up to the de facto finale for female horses in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
This year the race will be run at Churchill Downs and that makes things especially interesting for the likes of Monomoy Girl who will consider that race to be a home game for her since she is stabled there with trainer Brad Cox. It’s probably not a big surprise that the bookmakers have been steadily adjusting the odds over the past couple of days after those performances.
Right now it looks like the older and more experienced Unique Bella remains the betting choice but the bookmakers have this one really close and you could definitely see them adjust these odds based on the incoming volume over the next couple of weeks of action.
In fact, just a single point margin separates the defending champion from the three-year-old pretender to the crown in Monomoy Girl. It will be fascinating to see what direction she goes in next as the connections don’t really seem to be looking to take on colts in the Travers even though it looks like she has proven herself good enough to beat just about anything on the Distaff side.
