He got things kicked off to a good start this season when he captured the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase at Leopardstown and built up some real momentum before turning in a very poor performance that was explained by a bad clinical exam following the contest. In the Christmas Chase at Leopardstown he was beaten a full 32 lengths to muster up a very poor seventh place finish that has definitely thrown some question marks over top of him.
You can back Sizing John anywhere between a 6/1 and a 7/1 price which indicates that the bookmakers have his price relatively figured out and it’s going to be fascinating to see how his odds shift around prior to the race - particularly if he makes a very nice pre-race appearance.
Road To Respect is the next option here and he’s still available at a primarily single digit price according to the bookmakers and you’ll see a listing anywhere between 17/2 and a few of them floating him at 10/1.
He’s the one who captured the aforementioned Christmas Chase where Sizing John was beaten and you get the feeling that this one could be a very interesting play and a true feather in the cap of the Irish.
