2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup Betting Update PT 4
- By A.J. Ryder on January 25, 2018 17:58 GMTIt’s worth remembering that winning a Grade 1 in Ireland typically involves your horse running against 5 contenders and two of them trade at 100/1.
His last outing actually came in a Class 2 contest where he triumphed by an impressive nine lengths - albeit not against any horses of genuinely outstanding quality. Look for his price anywhere between an 8/1 margin and an 11/1 margin going forward.
The winner of last year’s Irish Grand National - Our Duke - was able to triumph over a talented field of 24 at that point last year and appears to be pointed towards the Cheltenham Gold Cup this time around with a number of top bookmakers floating him at a relatively probable price tag to emerge as a genuine contender here in the big race.
He hasn’t really been out much since his big victory last year and only had a single effort so far - losing out badly in the JNwine Champion Chase when he was a tame seventh in a field of eight. Nevertheless, the bookmakers and the punters seem to view him at a plausible price tag and are floating him around an 8/1 margin all the way up to 12/1.
Keep in mind that he scoped abnormal following that effort and has likely been kept off the track this long in order to facilitate a run during festival season - though it may be a tricky ante post wager for some.
