2018 Kentucky Derby Update

We are now well into the prep season for the upcoming 2018 Kentucky Derby with the Rebel Stakes and a few other key contests having run over the past weekend. There has been plenty of action and excitement over the past few months as the Kentucky Derby trail is well under way.

We had a really exciting match-up last weekend as McKinzey and Bolt D’Oro duelled down the stretch with some old-fashioned thoroughbred race-riding earning a 3 day DQ for Mike Smith and a controversial situation where Bolt D’Oro was put up over his talented counterpart - much to the chagrin of the betting public.

Following that weekend, many expected to see Solomini come through in the Rebel Stakes to make a major impression but now it’s appeared that Magnum Moon is the one to beat and he was able to muster up an impressive victory that’s going to see him go into the First Saturday in May with a lot of momentum and (likely) an extremely short price.

There is a lot to like about Bolt D’Oro’s chances according to a number of stateside thoroughbred racing observers and he is available as the betting favourite right now and is the only horse trading at single digits. McKinzey is another one to watch here and is priced very similarly as Bolt D’Oro.

One would have to assume a fascinating clash in the Santa Anita Derby awaits these two.

Audible is another important contender and he’s going to find himself in the gate based on his point total if he can get it right over the next couple of weeks. The hot selection might wind up being Justify - who is owned by China Horse Club and was able to muster up a smashing victory last weekend.
