While the race certainly doesn't have quite as much luster as it did over the past couple of years there is still plenty to like about the race itself.
This year we have a high-profile contender in accelerate who has just been pointed towards this massive contest obviously with an eye looking on the upcoming 2018 Breeders Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in November.
Right now the bookmakers have him trading at just above even money to get the big victory here and it's going to be interesting to see how his odds actually Shape Up on the day in regards to how much money he takes from the betting public in the pari-mutuel pools that dominate American Racing.
The field is not particularly deep this time around and some people may be using this as an opportunity to push all in on a Longshot spoiler - something that has happened before in races like this.
The primary competition is expected to come from the likes of Pavel and Doctor Dorr, both of whom trade at relatively plausible prices within the mid-single digits at the time of this writing.
Roman Rosso and Prime attraction are also factors in the ante-post betting market and it's going to be worth keeping your eye on the fixed odds wagering as we get closer and closer to this massive contest.
