While it may seem a bit presumptuous to start looking at the upcoming 2018 Preakness Stakes odds before the 2018 Kentucky Derby has even run its course, we have the main contenders for the Derby already being fancied to go and put in a solid performance next time out as well.

You can’t say the Tight Turns of Pimlico faster than the fact that we’ll have a number of quality runners taking a stab at the big race in a couple of weeks - though you would have to reckon that a number of the top contenders, should they run a disappointing race at Churchill Downs, will probably be held back for the Belmont or the summer meets at Del Mar and Saratoga.

You’ll find that Justify is priced as the betting favourite to win the 2018 Preakness Stakes and he’s still listed at longer odds than he is to win the Derby. While you may not be able to find bookmakers listing him at the same price to win both races it still represents a bit of value.

Audible is the second choice here as the ante post favourite and he’s a few numbers behind Justify, who many think has the ability to mount a triple crown challenge, though he may be unable to go a mile and a half at Belmont.

Mendellsohn is another really interesting contender and he has actually won at the distance here and a lot of his potential depends on whether he is really up in the reckoning during the Kentucky Derby. Should he come out of the race cleanly and be able to avoid any post-race complications after the Kentucky Derby than Mendellsohn will likely be right in the mix for the Preakness if he hits the board in the Derby.
