2019 Cheltenham Gold Cup Ante Post PT 2

Oftentimes we have seen a number of key Gold Cup contenders debut in the King George and then stay off the track until it’s time to contest the big race at Cheltenham and that always makes ante post wagering on this race a bit trickier than it needs to be.

There are a number of talented contenders who remain right in the mix for this race in regards to the ante post market and you’ll find a few of them boast some high profile accomplishments over the last couple of years.

Native River is one of the key contenders and you can bank on him making a serious impression if he’s fit and ready going into the big race in March. He’s a talented sort and definitely a serious Gold Cup contender. The bookmakers have him priced at a slim listing and he is just a point or two behind the likes of Presenting Percy and Might Bite.

It will be interesting to see how his odds shift around during the build-up to the big race itself. Last year’s winner Sizing John deserves a lot of credit and could certainly make a big impression here but the odds take a jump between him and the aforementioned contenders with a listing in the mid-teens making him more of an each-way selection than an outright fancy.

Footpad and Bellshill are the next level of contenders here and both of them look like they could make an impression but they will need to prove themselves over a Grade 1 race or two this season and if they are to land anything like the Betfair Chase or the Hennessy Gold Cup then there is plenty of time for their odds to tumble down quite considerably.
