This time around the field looks to be a bit more disparate than what we have seen in the past with several relative unknowns taking a shot at the $1,000,000 purse that’s up for grabs.
With the race appearing to have lost a bit of lustre in recent years after a few underwhelming years at Monmouth, we have most owners and trainers preferring to race and train up in Saratoga in pursuit of even bigger money and more enticing purses on a day to day basis.
This has left the Haskell in an interesting spot with one of the most controversial horses of the year - disqualified Kentucky Derby winner Maximum Security - lining up as the odds on favourite despite losing in his return to the track following the Triple Crown season. This has prompted many observers to think that he is definitely beatable here despite what his ownership group might have you think.
As it currently stands, the bookmakers have Maximum Security trading at a best price of around ⅘ already in the ante post markets and he could sink even lower on the day. King for A Day Trades as the closest competitor with a listing of around 7/2 while Mucho Gusto is priced at a 9/2 margin.
Joevia is a solid 7/1 price while the odds then take a big jump to Everfast around a 16/1 price tag while Spun to Run trades at 25/1 and Bethlehem Road at a 33/1 price tag.
