2019 Travers Stakes Betting Tips PT 1

We have one of the most exciting races of the entire calendar year set to unfold in Saratoga Springs this Saturday as the mid-summer Derby, the Travers Stakes, caps off another stellar card of elite thoroughbred racing. There is plenty to like about this race, which is restricted to three-year-olds and traditionally sees many familiar faces from the Triple Crown trail and a few new shooters emerging late onto the scene as well.

As we head into the contest the bookmakers are already beginning to offer up some solid ante post prices and a savvy punter can lock in some very good odds before we switch over to the pari mutuel pools for the race itself. 

The Travers has seen several big shocks over the last couple of years and typically crowns the chief three-year-old favourite to have a run against older colts in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. This time around, it looks like there are more than a few good horses set to have a go at this one. 

One of the biggest absences is Maximum Security who was able to get a redeeming victory in New Jersey after losing out to a stewards decision in the Kentucky Derby. His owners are still pursuing legal action to figure out how he will be recognized as a potential derby winner. 

Heading into the ante post market for the Travers itself, we have Tacitus emerging as the slim favourite according to several top bookmakers and he was a really interesting shout heading into the Belmont Stakes but was unable to triumph after a great run from Sir Winston.
