2020 Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase Betting
- By A.J. Ryder on February 24, 2020 22:00 GMTThe big feature contest of the Cheltenham Festival is setting up to be another fascinating iteration and the prices on offer here make this one of the most appealing Gold Cup’s in quite some time as a number of familiar faces are set to tangle with some of the emerging talent that has been knocking heads over the proper fences for a while now.
A number of top trainers have been pointing their entries at this race all season long and doubtlessly a lot of punters have some major ante post wagers riding on the penultimate race of festival season.
You’ll find more than a few different options here if you’re looking to string together a few accumulator tickets that culminate on the big feature race. Expect many to be parlayed with some of the bankers in the undercard races on the previous festival days.
The way that the betting markets are shaping up for this one means that a lot of value is available to be had for the savvy punter and it appears as though Santini is considered to be slim favourite as we head closer to festival time in two weeks. He has only been out twice this year and is still yet to register a victory at the festival in his previous two tries.
He was a runner up in the RSA last season but still acquitted himself well and was a third place finisher in the Albert Bartlett during the previous year. His victory in the Grade 2 Cotswalds Chase sets him up nicely going into this race and the punters appear to be backing him into a solid price.
Currently, he is available as high as a 4/1 margin for the victory in the Gold Cup but he’s under some serious pressure from the likes of last year’s winner Al Boum Photo, who has begun to gain a lot of steam in the past couple of weeks after being prominent in the ante post market for several months.

He was out in January for a victory under Phil Townend at Tramore when he was a 4/7 favourite against a group of 6 on bhis lone run so far this campaign. His intentions for the Gold Cup have been clear all year and many will have him backed on their ante post tickets they may have locked in over the past year.
Al Boum Photo is a general 7/2 price with most bookmakers.
Delta Work returns to Cheltenham for another attempt at a big run this time around and he’s trading as the outright third favourite around a 6/1 margin with several bookmakers. He won the Pertemps Final here in 2018 and was a third place finisher when moving up to chasing fences last year.
He was unsuccessful on his seasonal debut with a second place finish at Down Royal but he’s followed that up with two sharp victories and he looks set to kick on here following his solid victory in the Grade 1 Irish Gold Cup, defeating Kemboy in the process.
Other notable contenders for the Gold Cup include Clan Des Aubeaux, Kemboy, Presenting Percy and Lostintranslation.
