2020 Epsom Derby Ante Post Betting

Now that flat racing has returned to British shores following the latest iteration of the Royal Ascot meeting and the 2000 Guineas, the Epsom Derby is finally set to unfold - albeit a couple of weeks late. This will make the race a bit more interesting as many are coming into the contest without a steady stream of prep races and some appear to be targeting the 1m4f contest as their seasonal debut.

Since Pinatubo appeared to not live up to the type in both the Guineas and his Ascot race, the 2020 flat racing season looks to be looking for its three-year-old star and you might find that horse emerge out of this famous contest.

Undefeated English King appears to be the choice from the punters and he can be backed with a variety of bookmakers anywhere between a 5/2 margin and a 3/1 price tag at the time of this writing. He emerged at Linfield for his seasonal debut and looked good pulling off a victory the 1m3f distance.

English King was able to stretch out towards the end of the contest to score by nearly three lengths and he manner of his victory is an indication that he will not struggle with the added distance on offer here in the Epsom Derby. His breeding suggests that he will flourish at these distances with his sire Camelot able to throw horses who can handle a mile and a half and beyond.

Andrew Balding’s charge Kameko is also coming into the contest on a good run of form and he is by red hot sire Kitten’s Joy, who has been responsible for a few Group 1 winners as of late. Since he moved over to Europe from Kentucky he has shown a remarkable acumen to produce top quality runners and this could be another feather in his cap.

The bookmakers have Kameko priced anywhere from 7/2 to 5/1 and the only real question mark is that he has only been campaigned up to 1m at this point so one has to wonder whether he will be able to kick on in those final two furlongs when things get interesting in the race.

A few other notables in the race include Russian Emperor who can be backed around a 7/1 margin while Mogul has put together a respectable body of work and looks like he could emerge as a serious player with prices hovering as high as a 10/1 listing with several top bookmakers.
