- By A.J. Ryder on July 17, 2020 16:35 GMTAmerican thoroughbred racing was one of the few things that didn’t shut down in the spring but it did result in a lot of fixtures being moved around. Perhaps most significantly was the Kentucky Derby which has traditionally been run on the first Saturday in May and now will be contested on the first Saturday in September.

The much longer road to the Kentucky Derby has led to a few horses getting knocked off the trail early in their campaigns due to injury and we have seen a lot of talented horses face problems or setbacks when you look back to the early days of 2020 when the field was beginning to emerge.
During that period, Tiz The Law, trained by Barclay Tagg, has stood out as the key contender to have a run at this reimagined Triple Crown season. He was victorious when sent off as the big favourite in the Belmont Stakes - which was run at 1m1f instead of its traditional 1m4f distance.
There is a lot to like about his ability and if he trains on then he could be set to back a real impression. He trades as short as even money for the Derby.
Honor A P has emerged as one of the main challengers with plenty of punters coming on to support him on the back of recent victories. The talented runner has been able to deal with just about everything thrown his way so far and the bookmakers seem to have some confidence in him at a 4/1 ante post price.
Uncle Chuck is another runner who has emerged onto the scene lately and his price of 8/1 in the ante post market looks to be a bit short but he still has plenty of opportunity to make a bigger statement over the next couple of weeks with a run at Saratoga more than likely.
Art Collector is priced anywhere from 8/1 to 12/1 and he was able to impress during the Blue Grass Stakes which ran at the 5 day Keeneland meet that has just concluded. You’ll find his victory over the talented Swiss Skydiver by a three length margin says a lot about his ability and you can bank on him to train on nicely for conditioner Thomas Drury.
