Authentic, who was able to dispose of the well-fancied favourite Tiz The Law, has rocketed to the top of the market for the Preakness with a number of bookmakers listing him at around 5/4 to secure a victory in the slightly shorter 1m 3/16ths distance than he was able to conquer in the Kentucky Derby.
His trainer Bob Baffert looks to have another really talented colt who seems to be peaking at the right time. His ability to sit handy for most of the race and then push on at the key moment indicated that he has plenty of tactical speed and that will put him in a good position heading to the tight turns of Pimlico.
It’s probably not a big surprise that Tiz The Law is the second favourite in the ante post market but there are question marks over whether he will run in the Preakness and instead point directly towards the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland where he would be taking on older colts and geldings.
Right now, punters will find Tiz The Law hovering around a 5/2 margin but it’s best to wait until connections firm up their plans for the next target before staking anything substantial on him in the Preakness.
