- By A.J. Ryder on November 30, 2020 16:17 GMTOne of the biggest highlights on the National Hunt calendar is the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown. This contest typically sets up the better chasers for a run at the King George on Boxing Day. There is plenty to like about this year’s iteration of the competition with 8 runners confirmed at this stage after the final round of declarations.

Altior is obviously the big name coming into this contest and you have to assume that the bookmakers think his price is going to go even lower since he’s been eased into 10/11 after that final declaration stage.
It’s worth noting that he was beaten on his seasonal debut last year when he ran in the Grade 2 Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot. He was second of a mere three runners in that race but it did set him up for a victory at Newbury the following February. He was off the track by the time the Festival rolled around so he’s been unraced since then and many will assume that the talent he has displayed in the past should stand him in good stead here.
Greaneteen is the next shortest priced contender with a listing around 4/1 or 9/2 depending on whom you’re wagering with. The Paul Nicholls-trained French-bred has already been out this season when he was victorious at Exeter in a Grade 2 encounter. The margin was slim on the day with the victory being by a mere neck, but his fitness can’t be understated.
The Nicholls yard is firing at the moment and one would venture a guess that the lads at Ditcheat think they are in with more than a shout here against the likes of Altior.
He was unbeaten last year until he could only muster up a fourth place finish in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase at the festival. Now six and with plenty of experience behind him, he could be set to make a big step forward here against some big name opposition.
