2021 Aintree Grand National Long Shot Betting

We are just a short time away from the biggest National Hunt race of the year in the Aintree Grand National where some of the most talented handicap contenders from the UK & Ireland will contest the toughest challenge in jumps racing. This year’s iteration is especially interesting both with the absence of Tiger Roll and no real discernible favourite popping out in the ante post market.

Cloth Cap is obviously attracting a lot of attention and the bookmakers have him coming in around a 4/1 listing and that’s going to be a bit too short for a lot of punters in a race this deep that often relies so much on racing luck as it does genuine talent and skill.

Taking a look at some of the longer odds selections, you’ll find that The Storyteller is an interesting each-way option with a price around a 22/1 margin with several top bookmakers. He was one of the horses switched out from Gordon Elliott after his 6 month ban and that may have affected his performance at the Cheltenham Festival where he was only able to muster up a 5th place finish in the Stayers Hurdle.

Prior to that he had put in two solid performances in Grade 1 contests in Ireland with second place finishes in both against some quality company.

Another to keep your eye on is Bristol De Mai who missed Cheltenham and will be coming into the race fresh. It will be his first attempt at the National and he’s been running in the Mildmay Chase over the last couple years without actually winning the race. He’s got some good performances under his belt and can definitely stay the distance so the 33/1 available on him looks solid.

For those looking for a genuine longshot, take a look at Shantou Flyer who is available around a 66/1 margin and could go off higher on the day.
