2021 Breeders Cup Classic Betting Update PT 2
- By A.J. Ryder on May 18, 2021 13:24 GMTEssential Quality was widely-viewed as the horse to beat in the Kentucky Derby but he was only able to muster up a fourth place finish. Having won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last year and absolutely walked the Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland, the Godolphin charge was unable to get the job done at Churchill Downs but will be pointing towards the upcoming Belmont Stakes.

It’s worth remembering that there are question marks over his ability to handle the 1m4f distance on offer at Belmont.
Punters will find Essential Quality trading around 12/1 right now but that’s probably worth holding off on since he will likely be at or about that price on the day of the race. It’s also important to note that horses who have had lengthy Triple Crown campaigns oftentimes don’t wind up finishing the season in November. With some good management from conditioner Brad Cox’s team, then Essential Quality could be bang in there in the Classic.
Malathaat was the winner of the Kentucky Oaks and virtually everybody thinks that she’s going to step up and take on male horses at some stage this year. That might verh well be the Classic and you’ll find her priced around a 14/1 margin right now which places her right alongside living legend Monomoy Girl.
Both of these contenders have a genuine chance and could be popular with the punters - it’s worth keeping your eye on Malathaat in the Belmont Stakes because if she hits the board then you reckon that she’ll be pointed towards the Classic as opposed to the Distaff later on this year.
Other notables include Swiss Skydiver at 25/1, Preakness winner Rombauer at 33/1 and Jesus’ Team at 66/1.
