A third place finish in the Coral Eclipse was followed up by a solid second place in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot racecourse. Notably, Mishriff was beaten by stellar three-year-old Adayar, who looks as though he could be capable of just about anything at this point.
At this stage, Mishriff is nominated for the Arc, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Juddmonte International - which would certainly be a feather in his cap should he aim for that race in August. It will be interesting to see if his connections think a trip to California could be in the cards for him but one has to assume that a lot can happen between now and then and 4/1 might just be a bit too short - particularly for an older colt who just lost to a three-year-old.
Love has been another one of the big names who was beaten by Adayar last time out and it’s worth remembering that it was only the second run since nearly a year off the course for this talented Aidan O’Brien trainee. Her price tag for the Breeders’ Cup Turf is hovering around a 5/1 listing at this stage and it looks as though she could be set to make a big impression.
Her 2020 campaign was looking nearly unbeatable before being sidelined in August and she has been punching it out in all of the top level Group 1’s so her profile is significant and she will certainly command respect should her connections choose to line up in the gate at Del Mar in November.
