February 6th sees a solid group converge at Leopardstown and it looks like the talented up and coming star Honeysuckle who comes in as the bookmakers choice to hit the line first. There is plenty to like about his ability and his victory in the Grade 1 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle definitely showed off what the talented seven-year-old could have in store.
Henry De Bromhead’s charge has shown that he can get the job done on the day and his undefeated record will be on the line here. But it looks like there will be a few potential usurpers to his crown lining up alongside him and that’s where some value can be found if you want to go against the upstart gelding.
Honeysuckle can be backed at around 13/8 with several top bookmakers at this point.
Rich Ricci’s Sharjah is definitely one to watch as a potential spoiler here having just conqeured the Grade 1 Matheson Hurdle at Leopardstown and he will be looking to build on that impressive performance to get things geared up for the Cheltenham Festival in a couple of months. Right now, you’ll find him trading around a 5/2 price tag.
Aspire Tower and Saint Roi both line up as interesting outside shots around a 6/1 price but you have to reckon that they will need to step up their overall level of performance if they are going to get the better of the top two. Should 8 horses wind up in the race then a 3-way place bet on either of these could be an interesting saver wager.
Abracadabras is also in the mix here with a decent 9/1 shout from several top bookmakers and looks like he could be the play if Honeysuckle isn’t able to get the job done.
