2021 Irish Derby Latest Betting

With plenty of exciting flat racing action unfolding all over the UK and Ireland in the coming months, a lot of attention is being given to the upcoming Irish Derby at the Curragh. There is a very competitive ante post market for this one and a number of top 3yo stars are lining up to take a shot at this one and propel themselves towards horse racing immortality.

The ante post favourite is High Definition, a contender who has only had a single run this year when he ran third in the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York.

Prior to that, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was undefeated in two starts in Ireland as a two-year-old. The fact that he was beaten in the Dante by Hurricane Lane doesn’t seem to phase the bookmakers as virtually all seem to expect that he will relish the added distance on offer here. Right now, punters can find High Definition priced as the 9/4 fancy.

Hurricane Lane was able to muster up a third place finish in the Derby at Epsom and he ran credibly but just wasn’t able to find his best form when it mattered most. The punters seem willing to give him another chance here, however, and you'll find him trading as the second favourite with a 3/1 price tag.

The third shortest priced contender, Mojo Star, may be the most interesting horse in the race. He remains a maiden with three second place finishes to his credit. Second in the Derby is no joke and with a change in tactics (likely moving a bit earlier this time around) he could be poised to make a very big impression.

Right now, you’ll find him at a 9/2 margin.

Mac Swiney was another really prominent Derby contender who should be able to put in a good shift heading back to the Curragh - a course where he has performed very well in the past. He was able to capture the Irish 2000 Guineas here and could be poised to make it a classic double. Look for him at an 11/2 price with most major bookmakers.
