Becauseicouldntsee Headed to Grand National

One of the more interesting Irish selections in this year’s John Smith’s Grand National appears to be the talented Becauseicouldntsee, who lines up for the Noel Glynn yard. The eight year-old chestnut emerged straight onto the chasing scene and has a number of credible runner-up finishes – the most recent was a tough beat to the respected Majestic Concord at Leopardstown back in December.
Unraced since 2010 due to a surgery, Becauseicouldntsee appears to be nearly guaranteed to line up in the National. Speaking to the Racing Post, conditioner Glynn reported that he is “99 per cent certain to line up in the Grand National… He is a fantastic jumper and seems to prefer to go left-handed so I am hopeful that he can run well at Aintree.”
Glynn also confirmed that Davy Russell will be in the irons if the fracture he is nursing manages to heal in time for the race.
Becauseicouldntsee is trading in the area of 25/1 for Grand National glory – a price that also boasts a number of talented competitors. He is also well-weighted for the race and enjoys running at 10st 8lb. His lone score over fences at Fairyhouse came over soft ground – which could see his price drop if the weather materializes at Aintree like many expect it to.
As it currently stands, Willy Mullins The Midnight Club is trading as the 8/1 across the board favourite for National Glory while the gamble is on for Sir Alex Ferguson’s What A Friend, who can be had as low as 10/1 for the Aintree showpiece.
