The feature race, the Sussex Stakes looks to be all about Solow, who could produce another performance of the ages as one of the most exciting contenders of 2015 looks set to roll again here in another big Group 1 as the punters have the Singspiel gelding backed into odds-on with a 4/6 price tag at the moment. The recent wins have all come at big meetings and all at the highest level as this French miler has emerged as one of the top contenders on the planet.
Glorious Goodwood is in full effect and we’ve got some stellar wagering options ahead of us on Wednesday at one of the premier summer meets. The days card is anchored by the widely-anticipated Sussex Stakes and there are plenty of reasons to expect a seriously stand-out performance from the top contenders in that major Group 1 contest over the one mile distance.
The opening race is a 2m5f handicap with twenty different runners and it’s going to be a pretty tricky scenario to gauge the outright winner here. William of Orange lines up for Sir Mark...
Prior to that fifth place run he was able to rattle off a succession of three victories in a row from his seasonal debut, gradually rising in class each time. He has already beaten quite a few who are already in the mix here. We also have Bushcraft ranking as a second choice here and he’s emerged from relatively humble beginnings but looks like he could really make a breakthrough here on his first step up to the Heritage Handicap circuit. He has never finished outside of the top 3 in his entire career and has won 5 from 7 lifetime races.
The third contest is a solid handicap race going 1m. We’ve got 11 runners in this one and you can bank on this one remaining a very competitive betting contest with a lot of different runners representing competitive yards. Grand Inquisitor is ranking as the betting favourite in this one and the Sir Alex Ferguson-owned three-year-old by Dansili has shown plenty of back class so you can expect a repeat performance here since the placing of the race looks to be just right for him.
Sixth Sense represents an interesting shot here since he’s listed placed at Ascot but seems to struggle when he’s up against genuinely top-class competition. It appears as though Mark Johnson is still trying to figure him out but the victory that he won at Pontefract really shows that he’s able to pull off a solid performance when the conditions are right.
The fact remains that Sixth Sense might simply be a decent handicapper and not the type who’s going to be really pursuing listed and group level contests on a regular basis or anything...
One of the most anticipated Group 1 events on the summer is set to unfold at Ascot on Saturday with the latest running of the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The race itself features the most important runner in Britain at the moment with Golden Horn trading as the significant odds-on favourite to secure his latest Group 1 contest but the rain in the forecast looks like it might change the equation pretty quickly and there is a solid chance that he may not run.
Postponed probably has the biggest variance in his outright price with the Luca Cumani-trained four-year-old hovering at either 7/1 or 10/1 right now about a week before the race itself. We are still a few days away from the final declaration stage next week so you can expect that those 10/1’s will start to disappear as we get closer to the big day kicking off.
He was last seen finishing third in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot with Adam Kirby up. He came out of the gates at a 7/2 margin...
There is an interesting group lining up here to take him on but the field itself lacks a lot of top class talent as Golden Horn looks to have scared off the bulk of the other flashy contenders in his division. Lady Bamford’s Eagle Top will line up in this one off a second place finish at Royal Ascot in the Hardwicke Stakes.
The four-year-old son of Pivotal famously beat out Adelaide last year in the King Edward VII Stakes last year and has done some of his best running at Ascot. He has been running with Frankie Dettori up recently so that won’t be...
There’s a lot of buzz circulating around the big upcoming contest at Ascot with the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes looming large next weekend following the confirmation of undefeated Golden Horn for the 1m4f summer showpiece.
The punters had been assuming that he was on his way and they have been busy backing him in the ante post markets for a while now but with the confirmation coming in today that he would, indeed, contest the Group 1 at Ascot; we are now seeing his listing drop down into an 8/15 or even 1/2 margin at a lot of major...
Muhaarar took the Coronation Cup at Royal Ascot and was a bit of a surprise coming home at 10/1 there but it was an emphatic win by nearly four lengths. With a similar sort of race likely to emerge here - he may prove that the last effort was not a flash in the pan performance.
One of the best sprinters of the recent era, Sole Power, is set to contest this one as well but the bookmakers and the betting public are lukewarm on his chances - pricing him at about 16/1 for the outright victory. Globetrotting son of Dutch Art, Caspar Netscher is also in the mix here and could be an interesting outside contender for David...
