Breeders’ Cup Classic Betting Tips Pt 4

The one to watch at a longer price is likely to be Moreno, who is a speedy frontrunner with some versatility and proven acumen over the surface at Santa Anita. He was sent off as the 2/1 favourite in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga but failed to hold on to the lead, finishing well behind the ultimate winner Itsmyluckyday. His colorful Cajun manager Eric Guillot never shies away from the media and you can expect to find him at a 14/1 price tag on the day of the race.

V.E. Day emerged on the scene when he captured the Travers Stakes but not a huge amount is known about this horse other than the gritty display he showed when he won that big three-year-old race at Saratoga. His next steps in the racing world look a little murky at the moment but you can expect them to take a shot at the Classic and you never know what might happen.

Regardless of his excellent past performance, you have to assume he will be higher than 14/1 on the day and that means he is not really worth an ante post wager at this time.

Toast of New York also trades at 14/1 and is firmly pointed towards the Classic but you have to wonder how he is going to fare on Santa Anita’s traditional dirt surface. As a synthetic specialist, he felt really at home on Del Mar’s speedy conveyor belt of a track but his ability to move on against seasoned dirt professionals makes his price a bit trickier to back.

Ride on Curlin is listed at 33/1 with several bookmakers but looks unlikely to run in the race and has no published workouts for quite some time. Bayern, who won several marquee races for three-year-olds this year and was the favourite in the Travers, is likely to go for the dirt mile and is not worth the 33/1 currently being offered by the bookmakers.
