Maximum Security has been one of the most controversial horses in racing for the better part of a year after his former trainer Jason Servis was caught up in an FBI sting for administering performance enhancing drugs to the horses under his charge. The fact that Maximum Security had once raced for a $16,000 tag before emerging as the superstar that won the Derby and the Saudi Cup definitely caused a lot of head scratching from bettors all over the world.
Since the fallout from that investigation continues to unfold, Maximum Security has been transferred to Bob Baffert and has managed to acquit himself well in a few of his races but does not appear to be the world beater that he once was. Maximum Security is trading around a best price of 8/1 and there will be some who think he can get the job done at Keeneland.
Authentic is difficult to price right now and the bookmakers have him trading anywhere from a 5/1 listing to an 8/1 price and there are many who think that he was exposed in his stretch duel with Swiss Skydiver in the Preakness. He definitely has talent and if he stays in training could wind up being a successful stallion with his bloodline.
Swiss Skydiver has options for both the Breeders’ Cup Distaff and the Breeders’ Cup Classic with no real firm commitment for either race at this point. Her price can be backed as low as 5/1 and as high as 11/1 to secure the Classic this year and you have to reckon that her connections will take the flyer and go after the colts in this race.
Other notables in the mix include Tom’s D’Etat who is available around a 7/1 price while four-year-old Code of Honor remains an interesting outsider with a listing of 20/1 right now.
