Camelot Odds-On for 2012 Epsom Derby

After a stupendous performance to capture the 2000 Guineas and get the English Classic season off to a rollicking start, Coolmore's top colt Camelot is seeing his price shrinking by the day for the upcoming 2012 Epsom Derby.

At the moment it appears as though he is the only candidate even trading at a single-digit price and this must come as music to the ears of contrarian punters who will be out there looking to beat him. Judging by his Guineas performance he doesn't look unbeatable but you get the feeling that if he gets ground that suits him a bit more then he will be very tough to beat.

Many bookmakers have Camelot trading as short as 4/5 for the Epsom date while some float him at even-money. As it currently stands, the best price you'll find on him looks to be a 6/5 listing and that's sure to drop if he continues to take money at the clip many are expecting.

Bonfire looks to be the key challenger at this point in time and he's set for his seasonal debut having finished third to French Fifteen at Saint-Cloud in the Criterium International. His 13/2 listing there showed how much credibility he had just coming off a maiden victory Salisbury. Beaten by less than two lengths, a notable entry on the race comments states he was unlucky not to be closer up.

Bonfire ran on well that day from a nice tracking trip at the back of the pack and t will be interesting to see how the Highclere-owned contender pushes on in his three-year-old season. It would certainly be a coup for German stallion Manduro.

Bonfire can be backed around 10/1 with most major bookmakers.

Imperial Monarch deserves some consideration and he's likely to get some backing with a price as high as 20/1. He captured a Group 3 contest on his seasonal debut but it came against a meagre field of 4 contenders. AP O'Brien's other entry will likely go right to the front and lay down a quick pace for Camelot to run on to.

The real wild card appears to be Frankel's brother Noble Mission. Some bookmakers have him as low as 14/1 while he trades as high as 25/1 with others. He just captured a listed contest against a field of five and will certainly look to kick on nicely for Epsom. What a feather in a cap that would be for Sir Henry Cecil.
