Day one is always about the bankers in the big races and The Supreme Novices Hurdle this year looks to be focused primarily on Min for quite some time. The Irish superstar has put together some really good performances in two of his outings this year having broken his maiden at Punchestown in a 21 horse race and then capturing the Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown in early January.
Altior is likely to be the main source of competition here and he’s already got a victory at Cheltenham in the Grade 2 Supreme Novices’ Trial Hurdle by a whopping 13 lengths. While it isn’t quite as good of a race that Min has won this horse should certainly not be ignored as he looks to add the fifth score on the bounce this season.
The Arkle is always the next up race and this one we are looking at Douvan who is another Mullins superstar that really looks to be among the cream of the crop of his accomplished stable and Douvan will be looking to build on his excellent score at Cheltenham last year in the Supreme Novices.
Having the ability to be able to fire off such a steady string of victories is especially impressive and Douvan will be searching for his ninth win on the bounce after losing his maiden effort at Saint-Malo. He appears to have scared off a fair amount of competition here and he is facing off against the talented Gordon Elliot charge The Game Changer while Vaniteux looks interesting as well if you’re looking for a spoiler.
