Things on day one open, as always, with the Supreme Novices Hurdle – a contest that is always really exciting and really overbet. This year we have the talented face-off between Melon, who has only been out once in his entire career and impressed enough to show that he might have what it takes to be a potential superstar, and Ballyandy who captured last year's Champion Bumper and has recently found himself back to winning ways.

Melon gets the slim edge from the bookmakers with a 10/3 best price out there right now while Ballyandy is consistently just a tick behind him with the majority of books going 7/2 on him. Only a handful have the pair of them trading evenly at a 3/1 price tag.

Beyond those two, you'll find that Bunk Off Early is taking plenty of action at a price as high as 15/2.

In the second contest of the day we have the Arkle Chase with Altior emerging as the banker on day one and, while his 1/4 price will likely get hit down on the day even further (particularly should he make a really nice pre-race appearance) you can assume that he will be a popular inclusion in a lot of accumulator tickets bridging together victories in the Supreme Novices and the Champion Hurdle.

Nico De Boinville will pilot the talented jumper for a spin around the track at Cheltenham and he will be facing his main competition from the likes of Charbel, who has been out three times this year and has taken a single victory. Don't disregard his second place last time out since it shows plenty of opportunity to improve.
