Cheltenham Gold Cup Latest Betting

We are just a short time away from the kick-off of the Cheltenham Festival and you can still get some really great prices on many of the top contenders for the big showpiece race of the Festival - the Cheltenham Gold Cup. There is plenty to like about how the race is shaping up this year and there are more than a few who can win this one.

Al Boum Photo is the 5/2 favourite coming into the contest and he looks likely to go off as the betting choice on Gold Cup day. He will be looking for his second Cheltenham Gold Cup on the bounce - an accomplishment that would surely etch his name into the all-time greats who have made this race the epicentre of their chasing accomplishments.

He has only been out once this entire season capturing a Grade 3 contest at Tramore on New Years Day by a significant margin. He made the others look ordinary there but didn’t exactly beat a group of blockbuster staying chasers that day either.

A Plus Tard for Henry De Bromhead definitely catches the eye at a 6/1 price in the markets right now and he was a beaten favourite in last year’s Ryanair Chase, finishing third to Min after going off at a 7/4 price. He’s also only been out the single time this season and captured a Grade 1 victory in late December when he bested Kemboy.

Last year’s RSA Chase winner Champ is the second choice for the Gold Cup with a solid 5/1 price but he was definitely underwhelming on his first effort this season only managing a tame second place finish at Newbury in the Game Spirit Chase. He will need to run an almost perfect race and perhaps get a bit of luck along the way but he will blossom into a Gold Cup winner if his career lasts long enough.

Notable runners coming in at longer prices include the likes of Royal Pagaille who is undefeated so far this season having started in a novice handicap, moving to a regular handicap and then capturing a really nice Grade 2 contest by a twelve length margin. This horse is definitely the surprise outfit in the race and could conjure up some magic here. Look for him as a solid each-way bet at 14s or more.
