Cheltenham Wednesday Betting PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on March 12, 2019 20:55 GMTIt was a very difficult day for the punters on the opening day of the 2019 Cheltenham Festival and there is a lot of questions being asked about Wednesday as the backers will be looking to recover and build back their bankrolls and the layers will be looking to keep their good run of form going.

There were more than a few big surprises, not the least of which was the Champion Hurdle - the days feature contest - which saw the big three contenders all fail to hit the board as 22/1 winner Espoir D’Allen romp home by a considerable margin at the finish.
The other big controversy was the favourite falling at the last in the mares hurdle - which immediately brought back images of Annie Power falling at the last. Ruby Walsh was up for this one as well and that will certainly be haunting a lot of punters for quite some time.
That feeling is exacerbated when you consider that she dropped to 1.03 to win the race, in running.
There is still a lot to like about Wednesday’s card at Cheltenham and you can bank on things getting off to a roaring start in the Novices’ Hurdle with some really solid prices on offer. Champ appears to be the betting favourite right now but he’s only a lukewarm selection despite coming into the race with a four win streak to his credit and plenty of momentum coming into the contest.
He’s up against some quality horses with decent records, however, and plenty of them are still emerging and could be set to make a real impression here on the biggest stage.
