Fort Leney Novice Chase at Leopardstown
- By A.J. Ryder on December 28, 2010 14:26 GMTThis Grade 1 contest for novice chasers should be a fascinating 3m contest. Most come into this one fresh off a victory and you can expect a very even contest with all ten contenders carrying 11-10.
Chicago Grey takes his first step up to graded level in this one and, barring a falling effort at Cheltenham in November, he hasn't finished off the board in his past seven races. He took a step off the novice circuit and scored at ungraded level back at Navan in September. Take from that what you will, but he should show plenty of acumen on the day.
Mouse Morris saddles Elysian Rock and he's been well-campaigned this year having taken two on the bounce at Cork and Thurles, respectively. In both of those instances, it was his ability to stay on well in the final furlong that proved decisive. Surface-wise, he will prefer things to be on the softer side but he should be able to handle the 3m distance.
HEAD OF THE POSSE gets McCoy up for this one and he acquitted himself well to finish third in his first crack at a Grade 1 contest. He has a Grade 3 victory under his belt and it really must be admitted that the seven year-old son of Supreme Leader is going from strength to strength this season. He looks to be well-priced around 11/2 and will certainly be a factor with a clean trip.
Thegreatjohnbrowne has won nearly every race he's been able to finish, and he's expected to go off as the betting favourite. He flourished in a Grade 3 contest at Punchestown back in mid-November and he'll definitely be fresh for this one. He's undefeated this season in his two efforts, but you reckon AP and Head Of The Posse could have his number.
