Frankel's Injury A Concern to Punters

Juddmonte connections have confirmed that Frankel will face another scan after picking up what was described as a “superficial injury” while working on a routine gallop Wednesday morning. The world-beating star of the Juddmonte yard had an initial scan right after the incident and no damage was visible.

Connections have opted to be on the safe side, more than understandable with a colt of Frankel's potential value, and a further inspection is due on April 20.

Many equine injuries take time to actually show symptoms and the better safe than sorry attitude permeates professional organizations like Juddmonte.

Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Lord Grimthorpe has spoken to the media and asserted that every precaution was being taken with the superstar son of Galileo. “You have to take every precaution and he is in the best hands, receiving all the right attention. I can't predict what will happen. If something comes up, it comes up, but we are still hopeful he will be fine. We'll know more in a week's time.”

Frankel's seasonal debut in the Lockinge Stakes has now been thrown into doubt and he was scheduled for a racecourse gallop next week at Newbury.

Observers indicated that Frankel more or less came in on himself after putting in a very enthusastic work, customary for Sir Henry Cecil's runners.

Grimthorpe elaborated on Frankel's short-term future, “The initial scan showed no damage, which is a positive, but we will wait until the end of next week to scan it again as we want to give the haemorrhaging a chance to stop and for the filling to dissipate. It could potentially be more serious, we won't know until the scan, but even with the best-case scenario he is unlikely to make it to Newbury.”

This should set off an interesting ripple in the ante post markets as punters begin adjusting to the idea of Frankel not appearing until June.
