Free Horse Racing Tips for Super Saturday Breeders Cup Preps
- By A.J. Ryder on October 3, 2010 01:06 GMTThe 2010 Breeders Cup at Churchill Downs is going to look a lot more interesting after today's veritable slew of coast-to-coast Breeders Cup preps unfold.
With tomorrow's Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp having a bit of influence over the Breeders Cup Classic, it goes without saying that this is one of the biggest weekends for horse racing this year.
Norfolk Stakes
The Norfolk Stakes is a grade 1 contest going 1m110y over the cushion track at Hollywood Park. It's going to be a key two year-old race for the juvenile, and we're going to be jumping on board JP's Gusto (Successful Appeal) here as he's already scored at every graded level, including an emphatic victory in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity. Pair him up with Mike Smith and Jaycito (Victory Gallop) on the bottom.
Vosburgh Stakes
The Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes is running on the dirt at Belmont, and we've got a few stand outs here, but it could very well go in any direction as these contenders are fairly evenly-matched. Godolphin's Girolamo (AP Indy) is set to run for just the second time this year, and the drop back in distance should suit him. Todd Pletcher's Driven by Success (Precise End) boasts a course and distance reference and is going to be a strong selection.
Joe Hirsch Stakes
The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic looks to be all about Paddy O' Prado (El Prado), and many expect the Kentucky Derby-placed colt to run away with this one. We'll be attempting to beat him with the 6 year-old Darley-bred Telling (AP Indy) who comes off an impressive Grade 1 turf score at Saratoga- he's a real threat at 1m4f, which is a specialists distance, and he gets an even bigger reference if that turf is rated firm.
Yellow Ribbon Stakes
Graham Motion's Gypsy's Warning (Mogok) is the betting favourite for this one, but look out for the British shippers here as Princess Taylor (Singspiel) and Godolphin's talented Hibaayeb (Singspiel) will both likely be jumping onto the Lasix program. Godolphin hit extremely well with that reference and it could be enough to make a difference in this beatable field.
Flower Bowl Stakes
Japanese invader Red Desire (Manhattan Cafe) looks a cut above the rest in the Flower Bowl stakes, and this four year-old Japanese miss boasts the reference of having beaten Dubai World Cup winner Gloria De Campeao (Impression) once over the Meydan surface.
Her closest competition is likely to come from Gozzip Girl (Dynaformer) or Bill Mott's Changing Skies (Sadler's Wells), who has been doing quite well since shipping to American shores- never finishing outside the top two.
Cotillion Stakes
This limited field looks like it's going to boil down to a duel between Blind Luck (Pollard's Vision) and Havre De Grace (Saint Liam). The straight Blind Luck/Havre De Grace forecast looks like a great selection here as they have finished that way in their past two races. Blind Luck gives up an awful lot of weight but should be able to get the job done today.
Beldame Stakes
This Grade 1 contest goes 1m1f over a muddy track at Belmont Park today. We're expecting a big race from Todd Pletcher's Life at Ten (Malibu Moon) who ran third in the Personal Ensign. Kent Desmormeaux keeps the mount on Unrivaled Belle (Unbridled's Song) and she beat out Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia D'Oro) this year and will be deserving of respect at the betting windows.
Ladies Secret Stakes
Three words: Zenyatta, Zenyatta, Zenyatta.
Indiana Derby
The Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park is a Grade 2 contest going 1m110y over some fast dirt. Bob Baffert's superstar three year-old Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike) is definitely the play here and we'll be slotting in Wordly (AP Indy) and St Maximus Gato (Tactical Cat) on the bottom end of the triactor. Lucky should go off at a very short price.
Goodwood Stakes
Awesome Gem (Awesome Again) is always deserving of respect, and this talented war horse could certainly spring a surprise here at 10/1. Crowded House (Rainbow Quest) has been there or thereabouts for a while and is sort of a lukewarm play here. Twirling Candy (Candy Ride) is the slim betting favourite while Richard's Kid (Lemon Drop Kid) just grabbed the Grade 1 Pacific Classic and looks to be enjoying the switch to Mike Smith.
Jockey Club Gold Cup
There is seriously so much class lining up in the 2010 Jockey Club Gold Cup that it can be tough to figure out where to begin. Most are favouring the classy four year-old Blame (Arch) who is emerging as one of this year's serious standouts. He cashed in a whopping 111 Beyer to capture the Whitney handicap by a head with Garret Gomez aboard.
Nick Zito's Fly Down (Mineshaft) finished a respectable second in the Travers, and he'll be looking to build on that here. Rail Trip (Jump Start) looks like the outside bet for a lot of folks but he is unproven off the west coast synthetic surfaces. His price will collapse for the Breeders Cup should he pull off an emphatic victory here today at Belmont.
