Jumps Racing for Wednesday from Chepstow, Kempton and Naas
- By A.J. Ryder on November 23, 2010 21:53 GMTWednesday’s action certainly brings us a few more interesting options than we saw on Tuesday.
There are a number of winnable fixtures out there and we’ll be taking a look at six especially enticing ones.
12:20 at Wetherby
We’re starting things off at Wetherby with a four-strong claiming hurdle going 2m6f over going rated soft. Talented jumper NATIONAL TRUST gets four pounds on top-weighted Corlande and comes into the race having scored in two straight claiming/selling hurdles. He looks head and shoulders above the company here and is accomplished at the distance.
12:55 at Naas
It’s all about OSANA in this one as AJ McNamara and Eoin O’Grady team up with their 8 year-old bay looks poised to conquer a 2m3f chase. This is a sharp drop in class after a few place showings in Grade 1 and Grade 2 contests over the past year or so. In fact, Osana has only finished off the board once in seven races since the 2009 Cheltenham Festival where he finished 11th to Punjabi in the Champion Hurdle.
1:25 at Naas
The feature from the day at Naas is a listed race going 2m over hurdles. There is a six-strong field set to line up in this one and there are no real standouts here. The early choice could be LEBLON who comes in 122 from his last three and he’s got a full five pounds on the top-weighted Alaivan. It will likely be one of those two and it’s just a matter of getting the forecast right.

SHIRLEY CASPER gets a big five pounds to work with in this one as he takes on some fairly talented geldings in this 2m beginners chase. He drops down to this one after scoring at Grade 3 level last season at Limerick. A second place finish to Voler La Vedette in a Grade 3 back in May also serves as an excellent reference. This is a seasonal debut for this one but he should be able to capitalize based on his relative consistency.
2:15 at Chepstow
Saintly Lady initially jumps off the page based on some quality performances over the past calendar year but she will likely struggle with the type of company she lines up against here in this 3m handicap hurdle. The play appears to be ANAK with Tom Scudamore up for this one. The Jim Best-trained four year-old hasn’t finished outside of the top two spots on any race he has finished since July of 2009 and the Anak/Scudamore partnership is currently hitting at 100% with their only previous race a solid victory at Kempton back in January.
3:00 at Wetherby
There is a pretty deadly combination in the 3:00 Beginners Chase as Jonjo O’Neill teams up with Tony McCoy to tackle another short field. ABERDALE doesn’t give a pound to his competition and he’s been looking solid in his two outings so far this season. It took him a while to get going in 2009 but he was hitting extremely well towards the end of the campaign. Him and AP have two wins and a second-place finish from their three efforts together and many consider them the most dangerous contenders in the mix.
