Kauto Star Entered in Bet365 Gold Cup Chase

Living legend Kauto Star has plenty to think about in the next week or two with the 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup rapidly approaching. However, it appears as though connections are already thinking a step ahead when it comes to Kauto Star’s next high-profile entry.

The Racing Post is reporting that Kauto Star is looking set for his first tilt at the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown this April. Seemingly taking Kauto out of the Aintree or even Punchestown equations, Kauto will be looking to defend his unbeaten record at Sandown.

The eleven year-old son of Village Star scored back to back Tingle Creek’s in 2005-2006.

The Nicholls yard seems to think the Gold Cup Chase is a winnable race this year with ten entries from the barn being declared initially. In addition to the multiple Gold Cup winner, talented chasers Niche Market and Sir Alex Ferguson’s What A Friend are also in the early reckoning.

Michael Hourigan’s Church Island captured the race last year and looks poised to return to defend his crown at the ripe old age of twelve. Philip Hobbs has reportedly entered both Wishfull Thinking and the respected Planet Of Sound.
