Menorah enters the 2011 Cheltenham Festival carrying some real buzz about him as it appears that punters are extremely confident about his Champion Hurdle chances. A smashing victor in last year’s Supreme Novices, topping the odds-on Dunguib, he has run an undefeated two-race Cheltenham campaign this season – running on gamely at the end both times out.
Menorah achieved a career-high 162 in his last race and has never finished outside the top two in his nine-race track record.
The six year-old son of King’s Theatre was on the gallops this morning and the Philip Hobbs team reportedly has him firing on all cylinders.
Currently floating around 5/1 for Champion Hurdle glory, Menorah has been laid up since scoring at Grade 2 level in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham back in December. He took the victory over a number of respected contenders with the notable Supreme Novices fancy Cue Card running a game second.
Menorah’s owner Grahame Whately spoke to the Racing Post, declaring “It’s a very difficult race, there are some cracking horses going this year: Binocular, Peddlers Cross, Hurricane Fly and Oscar Whisky. Everything has gone tickety-boo with him.”
