Meydan Saturday Preview PT 2
- By A.J. Ryder on March 5, 2016 09:04 GMTThe erratic but loveable Keen Ice is getting a lot of attention in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 as he takes on an international group of established superstars as he seeks to build on his legacy as one of the two horses to ever win a race against triple crown winner American Pharoah.

He gets Ryan Moore and the backing of the betting public was he has been beat down to a 9/4 listing. Japanese superstar Gun Pit makes his way over to Meydan and brings along top Hong Kong Jockey Joao Moreira. He is a 12/1 outsider and looms large as a contender who will likely take a lot of betting in his home jurisdiction but will be trading at a good price in other areas.
Tryster is the logical favourite in the final contest the Jebel Hatta and he’s as short as a 4/6 margin to run away with this one. It’s a relatively indifferent group that he faces off against and if he gets a clean run from William Buick like many of us expect him to then he could wind up being the banker of the day.
Leading Kentucky Oaks contender Songbird is in the mix in the Santa Ysabel Stakes which will be a key qualifier for that race. There has been clamour in America for her to be pointed to run against boys in the Kentucky Derby but the likelihood of that is slim to none seeing as the connections tragically lost a competitive filly at the wire in the Kentucky Derby several years ago and have vowed not to go in that direction again.
Songbird can be backed at a 1.2 price tag fixed odds with several bookmakers and international punters should know that most Americans would take that bet in a heartbeat.
