Pegasus World Cup Betting Update PT 2
- By A.J. Ryder on January 17, 2019 17:07 GMTAs it currently stands, Accelerate is trading at a 13/8 price tag with a few bookmakers listing him around a 6/4 margin at the time of this writing. He will likely be around that price in the pari mutuel pools on the day so it may be worth waiting on backing him unless one expects him to make a really good pre-race appearance and draw even more of the betting money.
His main rival here appears to be the talented City of Light, who is also set to stand alongside Accelerate next year at Lane’s End Farms after having put together a very good campaign for his connections. The talented son of Quality Road deserves a lot of plaudits and deserves his role as chief spoiler.
The bookmakers seem to be floating him around a 3/1 ante post price right now and that might be a bit short in the grand scheme of things.
McKinzie is still priced at an 8/1 listing in a number of ante post markets but his trainer Bob Baffert has declared that he is more likely than not to miss the race and they certainly wouldn’t want to gamble the $1,000,000 entry fee on him if he’s not 100% fit.
Gunnevera is probably a better bet for the 8/1 margin than his rival Audible who has had an inauspicious return to the racetrack after placing well in some of the Triple Crown races last year prior to picking up an injury and his last couple of runs have been disappointing to say the least.
Gunnevera is well known for finishing second behind Accelerate at a big price in the Breeders’ Cup Classic but one has to wonder whether his late running style will fare him well at a distance that is going to be a furlong shorter than the last one that he contested.
