Pegasus World Cup Latest Betting Update PT 2

The Bob Baffert trained colt rocketed to prominence when he captured the Travers Stakes after winning just a pair of allowance races in California, making mincemeat of the best the 2016 three-year-old crop had to offer. His frontrunning trip left many speechless and he set a track record in doing so. Many didn't know what to expect from him when he ran in the Breeders' Cup Classic in November but he was able to topple California Chrome, who went off as the considerable favourite, with a sneaky tracking trip executed by Mike Smith where he moved at the last second to overtake Chrome at the wire, leaving the Santa Anita audience wondering what they had just seen as many thought this could be Chrome's coronation.

The bookmakers are having trouble separating the two contenders and you'll find that Arrogate is generally given the slight edge with most placing him around a 5/4 margin with a very going as short as 11/10. California Chrome can be backed at a best price of 6/4 with a few 5/4's and 11/8's available in the mix.

This past week saw an announcement that Connect would be skipping the race and he had previously traded at a 10/1 listing. Gun Runner – who has emerged as one of the most respected runners out of the Triple Crown Class of 2016 – was also on target for this contest but he has reportedly been having issues based on a quarantine and his situation for the race will be monitored.

If Gun Runner was to scratch from the race, this will likely see Arrogate heading into odds-on territory in the ante post market. There have ben rumours about Bob Baffert's Hoppertunity lining up in the race but it looks unlikely with Arrogate going. Midnight Storm also has question marks over whether he runs or not.

In the ante post markets, you'll find Neolithic available around a 20/1 or a 25/1 price tag while Shaman Ghost deserves respect after winning the Woodward and he trades at 25/1. Stanford is an interesting shout here to potentially hit the board and he's a 33/1 margin.

Keen Ice specializes in miracles and could be set to make a real statement here – particularly after flashing a new running style in after a freshening following his third place finish in the Classic. He trades as high as 40/1 with many going as low as 25s. Eragon and War Story are both available in the 50/1 to 66/1 range.
