Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Betting Tips and Preview

There is always a bit of extra drama in the cards when you get one of the Queen's horses competing in a race that is named after her and this year's iteration of the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is absolutely no different as Carlton House enters the race looking to get some type of result in his fourth start of the season.

Lining up for Sir Michael Stoute's yard this bay colt by Street Cry will be looking for his only other victory of 2012 aside from the score he notches at Sandown on his seasonal debut. The Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes isn't the highest-level contest of the year but it did get him off to a great start after being bet down to a slim 10/11 price tag. Following that he made an appearance at Royal Ascot, only to finish second to So You Think in the Prince of Wales' Stakes.

His connections opted for a much easier race next time out but he could only muster up a tame fourth place performance.

Cityscape comes into the race as one of the top choices from a ratings standpoint and, though he hasn't scored since Dubai this year when he captured the Dubai Duty Free, he has been running at the absolute top of the game for much of the year, shipping everywhere and avoiding nobody.

With races at Sha Tin, Sandown, Deauville and Woodbine already under his belt this year (in addition to his races in Dubai earlier this year), he's run against some of the best in the business and will be looking to get the job done if he retains James Doyle for the mount here.

Excelebration got the better of him the last time that the pair tangled with each other and most expect the four-year-old son of Exceed and Excel to offer up the sternest challenge in this race. He had Soumillon up last time but was still able to score by a considerable margin as he bested a tricky group of 11 in a Group 1 contest at Deauville.

Side Glance is certainly worth another look her too as he hasn't finished off the board for quite some time. He has a lot to like about him and Jimmy Fortune will stick aboard the five-year-old gelding by Passing Glance.

Keep your eye on lightly-raced Requisition as he looks to handle a big step up to the highest level.
