River Jetez Complicates Beverly D Stakes at Arlington

Globetrotting warhorse mare River Jetez takes to the turf at Arlington for her American debut in the Beverly D Stakes. Last seen running a disappointing fifth in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, the Mike De Kock-trained eight-year-old will be looking to show the turn of foot she flashed winning the Balanchine over an impressive field at Meydan that included the likes of Strawberrydaiquiri, Long Lashes and Kinky Afro.

Winless since that race, she put in a great shift to finish second to Presvis by less than a length in the Dubai Duty Free when sent off at a 6/1 price tag.

There is a notable pattern in many of her races where she wins virtually every time she is sent off as the betting favourite. The only genuine surprise you'll find on her card is a Group 1 score at Kenilworth a few years ago when she went off at 15/1.

She managed another solid second in the Singapore International at Kranji to the impressive superstar Gitano Hernando.

The highest rating in the contest belongs to Stacelita, who gets Ramon Dominguez for the trip. Her American debut kicked off in the United Nations Stakes, a Grade 1 contest at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. She was only able to finish third on the day to the classy Teaks North but should enjoy the distance here and should also appreciate the conditions.

Jonathan Sheppard teams up with red-hot jockey Rajiv Maragh with Fantasia – who scored in the Group 3 Modesty Handicap at Arlington. That prep could wind up paying serious dividends if the five-year-old daughter of Sadler's Wells finds herself well-positioned on the run-in.
