Seabass Likely Grand National Favourite Part 1

It appears as though the bookies are running scared of Katie Walsh and Seabass ahead of today’s feature race at Aintree. Britain’s biggest betting event is set to see a number of talented gelding competing over timber in search of the massive prize pool on offer. Punters from all walks of life are busy doing their last minute handicapping to get the best value and hopefully pull off a massive betting coup.

It’s not often that you see a brother and sister form the leading fancies for the Grand National (or any race for that matter) but that’s exactly what’s looking likely here with Katie Walsh, still an amateur jockey, looking more than likely to go off as the betting choice once the runner get underway. Ruby Walsh is on a Willy Mullins jumper named On His Own.

As it currently stands, you’ll find Seabass trading at a 9/1 price and some feel as though it’s possible that last year’s third place finisher could get bet down as low as 6/1. Ruby’s mount is currently trading at 10/1 and should be around there by the off for the National.

One of the really interesting things about this contest is that there is a third Walsh in the mix, Katie and Ruby’s father Ted Walsh is the conditioner of Seabass and you reckon there’d be nothing he’d rather see than the pair of them come home 1-2. Preferably with his mount in the lead again.

Seabass has been out twice this year not scoring in either contest but still looking the there-or-thereabouts type he has always been. On His Own, on the other hand, has only been out once this year and scored but he’s been a bit of an unlucky sort as of late and, though he’s won two out of his last four contests he fell in one and was brought down in the other one.
