Living-legend Goldikova (Anabaa) is set for her final campaign as the 2011 flat season draws nearer by the day. The popular six year-old, widely considered to be one of the greatest milers of all time, will enjoy a race schedule quite similar to last season that should see her competing at Ascot, Longchamp, Churchill Downs and (quite likely) Sha Tin racecourse.
Speaking to the Racing Post, Goldikova’s conditioner Freddie Head was bullish about the bay mare’s ability to reproduce her scintillating form from the past few campaigns. “She’s as well as she’s ever been after having a spell at her owner’s farm.”
Goldikova produced a major scalp for the European thoroughbred community by travelling to America to capture an unprecedented third Breeders’ Cup Mile on the bounce. Connections have reiterated their plans to head back to Churchill for a fourth mile and they also hinted that a win there could prompt a trip to Hong Kong.
Goldikova has never raced in Asia but could contest the Hong Kong Mile in her final swansong. By all estimates, Goldikova is favoured to earn nearly £5,000,000 by the time she brings her prestigious career to a close.
Connections were adamant that Goldikova would not run in 2012 and that she is destined for the Breeding shed.
