So You Think Pointed to Breeders' Cup

It appears as though the leading middle-distance horse in Europe is heading stateside next week as So You Think looks to be pointed towards the Breeders' Cup. Now majority-owned by Ballydoyle, his former full owner Dato Tan Chin Nam declared that he was ready to see the six-year-old contender “take on the world”.

After running in the Group 1 Arc De Triomphe, the Group 1 Champion Stakes and now the Breeders' Cup in the space of less than a month, it's going to be interesting to see which race the New Zealand-bred contender chooses.

The vast majority of bookmakers believe that he will tackle the $5,000,000 Breeders' Cup Classic over the dirt surface at Churchill Downs but there also remains the option that So You Think could opt for the Breeders' Cup Turf – which looks a much weaker race this year than the classic. It's a bit of a wild card to attempt So You Think, an unproven dirt horse, on a surface as unforgiving as Churchill's.

You wouldn't see them running him if the ground was sloppy and sealed, so the option of running it over yielding turf might appeal a bit more.

So You Think certainly does seem to be capturing the attention of many punters, particularly European ones. The simple fact remains that he will likely be available at a much better price on the Churchill Downs tote board than what you'll find at any fixed-odds bookmaker – you can expect him to get hammered as the key European representative in the race.

Await The Dawm had long been considered a key contender for the Classic but he has now drifted to a much higher price as Uncle Mo – whose season had been derailed by injury and illness – now trades as the 3/1 favourite for Breeders' Cup immortality.
