2011 Kerry National Favours Mullins Contender

Sometimes a horse is just destined to run in a race and we look to be seeing living proof of that as Minella Boys has successfully navigated the Irish Sea after a spate of bad weather had looked to derail his efforts to make it to the Kerry National.

Now confirmed to be on-course and ready to run in the Guinness-sponsored contest tomorrow at Listowel. The Charlie Longsdon-trained gelding saw his price rise in the build up to the race as the exchange punters began voting against his appearance. Now that he's confirmed to be in the mix you can look for him anywhere in the 14/1-20/1 range.

This is an exceptionally competitive handicap – made all the more interesting by the fact that it is serving as a seasonal debut for many in this one.

There are about five contenders in this race that look to be jostling for the favourite's position but the lowest price on offer anywhere at the time of this writing looks to be on Blazing Tempo at 11/2, he will have a significant advantage having won the Galway Plate about a month and a half ago and will be just that much more in-form than many of the others on offer here.

Willy Mullins seven-year-old mare is a Grade 3 winner on the novice circuit and is expected to cope well with the step up in quality.

Expect some stiff competition for Adams Island who turns out for the Paul Nolan yard. He's hovering around the 7/1 margin but can be spotted as low as 6/1. He is Grade 2-placed and will be looking to progress over going that might be just a little too firm for his liking. A bit of overnight rain would open things up for him.

Sopranos fans will do well to back Uncle Junior who also turns out for Willy Mullins. Though he is still yet to score over the course, he likely needed his prep race back in early August and should be firing on all cylinders here. Look for him in the 14/1 region.
