The Midnight Club Grand National Odds Tumble Following Bobbyjo Chase

All eyes were on Willy Mullins The Midnight Club at Fairyhouse on Wednesday morning and he duly stormed home to make a bold declaration about his intentions for the upcoming Aintree Grand National. It wasn’t just the victory itself but the manner in which the 10 year-old son of Flemensfirth achieved it that makes today’s result especially rousing.
Sent off at 11/10 with virtually all bookmakers, he got his revenge over Siegemaster – a contender who had topped him on a seasonal debut at Gowran Park about a month ago. The chestnut gelding is now expected to go straight to Aintree and he’ll be taking plenty of momentum with him.
The victory has led to The Midnight Club emerging as the clear early favourite for the John Smith’s Grand National. Bookmakers have been prompted to clip The Midnight Club’s price down from 12/1 to a firm 10/1. Punters will be looking for the single digit threshold to become a reality in two weeks time barring any negative news or feedback.
Mullins currently has The Midnight Club and Arbor Supreme firmly pointed at the National. Speaking to the Racing Post, Mullins declared “I’m very pleased with both horses… Arbor Supreme is back on track and the winner has come on nicely from his run in the Thyestes and shown improvement.”
It appears as though the gamble could be on for the Mullins yard in this year’s National as the Racing Post also reports that popular bookmaker Coral has trimmed Arbor Supreme from 40/1 to 20/1 for the Aintree showpiece.
